Edinburg, TX May 2, 2005 - The Volunteer
Resource Program (VRP) promoted volunteerism to University
of Texas-Pan American student leaders at the annual Student
Organization Convocation on April 28, 2005 in the University
Ballroom. Nearly 70 students representing 24 organizations
were in attendance.
The convocation was an opportunity for the Dean of Students
Office to celebrate the hard work and dedication that
student organizations displayed throughout the academic
year. Several student organizations took part in the
dinner/awards presentation. With a handful taking away
awards for distinctions, such as Student Leader of the Year
and the coveted, Best Student Organization of the Year which
went to Kappa Delta Chi.
The VRP was given the opportunity to tell student leaders
about the importance of volunteering in their community,
enhancing and complementing their education with
professional experience and how joining the VRP would make
it easier for them to find local nonprofits to volunteer
with.
Other winners for 2005 were Frederick Von Ende, Delta Zeta,
Advisor of the Year; Maurice Caceres, Sigma Lambda Gamma,
Student Leader of the Year; Delta Xi Nu, New Student
Organization of the Year; FIRBA, Project of the Year; Kappa
