Helping yourself as you help others. . .
That is what the
Volunteer Resource Program (VRP) at the University of Texas-Pan
American offers to UTPA students.
UTPA student volunteers have the
opportunity to explore different careers within the social
service sector as they develop important life skills,
including critical thinking skills, conflict resolution,
leadership skills and group dynamic skills.
Winter Texans and retirees can also
participate in the program. Many nonprofits are searching
for the skills and lifetime of experience seniors have
to offer.
The service provided by volunteers is of great value to the target population
benefiting from the project. It can help prepare students
for rewarding careers after graduation.
VRP volunteers must attend an
orientation/training session to ensure suitable and
productive placements.
Through this new program, students will
extend learning beyond the classroom and into the community.
The entire community will share skills and experience from
each other making for an “All Win” situation.
