Fun in the Sun Entertains Children

A little over two years ago, Letty and J.R. Villarreal walked through the doors of the Small Business Development Center, a component of CoSERVE, at The University of Texas-Pan American, with a goal – to expand their business.  Their part-time, home-based business Fun in the Sun, was ready to grow!

To meet their objective, they worked tirelessly with business counselor Maria D. Juarez to develop a business plan, but it was not without some challenges.  "There were times when I felt that we were not going to make it," Letty recalls and adds, "Juggling between business and home expenses wasn't easy, but we pressed on."

Fun in the Sun, a party-catering and ride-rental service in McAllen, was initially started as a disc jockey service to supplement family income.  It was only after they realized the demand for outdoor entertainment, however, that the Villarreals knew it was time to expand and diversify.

After much effort and some business guidance, Fun in the Sun has grown into a successful outdoor entertainment enterprise.  It continues to offer quality products and services, plus an array of moon jumps and kiddie rides, catering, party décor, piñatas, and party supplies – all the necessities for a fun party!

In addition to hard work, dedication, and commitment to family, the Villarreal’s credit their success to utilizing the right resources. Working with Maria at the Women’s Empowerment Business Center and the Small Business Development Center at The University of Texas-Pan American helped immensely.  With their business plan, the Villarreals secured financing to facilitate Fun in the Sun’s expansion.  "The new location has brought us more exposure and has helped increase our client base,” J.R. notes enthusiastically.

Fun in the Sun is located at 5001 Pecan Boulevard, Suite A, in McAllen, Texas.  For further information on the services offered by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) or the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), please call the SBDC at (956) 292-7535.
