
Objective: To provide homeownership education to low-income
families through a series of bilingual workshops.
The educational component is a joint venture with Amigos del
Valle, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the
housing needs of families in the Rio Grande Valley. COPC is
certified by the Texas Department of Housing and Community
Affairs as a Home Buyer Education Provider for Hidalgo County.
Services include:
- Home Buyer Course - a bilingual 3-part series covering
the following topics:
- Assessing readiness to buy
- Securing Financing
- Budgeting
- Closing process and documentation
- Selecting a home
- Home maintenance
- Classes utilize the Fannie Mae Foundations' Opening the
Door to a Home of your Own and How to Buy your Own Home
(Adult Literacy), and the Fannie Mae's A Guide to

- Contract for Deed Consumer Education Program - a series
of workshops and public announcements to inform families
about their rights before and after buying a lot.
- Housing Fairs - rural housing fairs will be conducted
with the participation of local housing providers, including
lenders, builders, nonprofit organizations and public
agencies.
